How to Choose Soccer Shin Pads
Shin pads protect the tibia from knocks and are mandatory in organised football. Look for a pad that covers from just above the ankle to a few centimetres below the knee. Sizing follows height, but the pad must sit flat against the shin without gaps. There are two main styles: slip-in guards that you wear under socks for a lightweight feel, and ankle-guard combos that add protection for younger or injury-prone players. Material matters - foam-backed plastic spreads impact, while carbon or fibre shells are lighter and stiffer. League rules sometimes require NOCSAE certification, so check before buying. Replace pads once the shell cracks.
