How to Improve Your First Touch in Football
A reliable first touch is the foundation of every elite player. The goal is to control the ball into space so your next action is easy. First, scan the field before the ball arrives; knowing where pressure is lets you choose the correct surface. Use the inside of the foot for gentle cushioning, the sole to kill pace, and the chest to bring a high ball down. Practise with a wall: pass, receive, and redirect in one motion, alternating feet. Keep the ball within a metre of your body. Small, repetitive rondos build the quick decisions that separate good players from great ones. Train with both feet every session, and film yourself to spot leaning or stiff ankles that rob you of control.
