1999 Champions League final: Manchester United's treble comeback

On 26 May 1999 at the Camp Nou, Manchester United completed the impossible. Trailing Bayern Munich 1-0 deep into stoppage time, they scored twice in added time — through Teddy Sheringham (90+1’) and Ole Gunnar Solskjær (90+3’) — to win 2-1 and seal the treble.

How it happened

Bayern’s Mario Basler curled in a free kick after just 6 minutes, and for most of the match United chased the game. With the clock past 90 minutes, Sheringham equalised from a corner, and Solskjær poked in the winner seconds later.

The treble

The win completed an English treble — the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League — under Sir Alex Ferguson. It remains one of the defining achievements in English football.

Why it’s iconic

Few finals have swung so completely in the final seconds. The image of Solskjær wheeling away in the 93rd minute is etched into football memory.
